never alone

I waited for you today
But you didn't show
No no no
I needed You today
So where did You go?
You told me to call
Said You'd be there
And though I haven't seen You
Are You still there?

[Chorus:]
I cried out with no reply
And I can't feel You by my side
So I'll hold tight to what I know
You're here and I'm never alone

And though I cannot see You
And I can't explain why
Such a deep, deep reassurance
You've placed in my life

We cannot separate
'Cause You're part of me
And though You're invisible
I'll trust the unseen

[Chorus]

We cannot separate
You're part of me
And though You're invisible
I'll trust the unseen

[Chorus]

Never Alone by Barlow Girl
(btw the acoustic version of this song is the best)

i love the beach... and i love it more at night. there is something about the vast nothingness when you set your gaze upon the sea in pitch-blackness. it's mesmerizing. and i know the pics above are more of the boardwalk at night, but i will post night shots of the sea, just as soon as i take them ;)

i come in peace with zebra shoes

*edit* and now, looking again at the photos from two years ago on the top of this blog, kayla isn't looking at us, the viewers, in any of the pictures. i just realized this now and i'm thinking about it and it's kind of funny. it's almost like she is ignoring us... the older, more adult-ish audience (esp in the three middle ones). she knows we are here, but she is teasing us, or rather, telling us she won't listen to us. i think kids, in general, like to pretend like they aren't listening to what we are saying. i think they want to see what we will do, get a reaction or a rise out of us. (and i can make this statement after working in a daycare for 5 years... heh). she's acting as if she doesn't care what we have to say. she does hear us, she does see us... but she is playing a game.

haha... so yea :)

tanning salon gallery?

so... my friend amy's paintings are hanging in the Vault Gallery and Studio, located in greenpoint brooklyn. It's in the downstairs of a tanning salon. tonight was opening night. it's really interesting because the building was actually a bank before it became a tanning salon and there was a vault door downstairs... hence the name. unfortunately i didn't even think to get a picture of the door... but it was pretty cool, just take my word for it ;)

well here's amy's stuff:

turbulent

this is a video that i saw in my art and women class today. it was done by Shirin Neshat. i think it's very interesting... can you feel her pain?

description from youtube:

In Turbulent, Neshat's 1998 two-screen video installation, two singers (Shoja Azari playing the role of the male and Iranian vocalist and composer Sussan Deyhim as the female) create a powerful musical metaphor for the complexity of gender roles and cultural power within the framework of ancient Persian music and poetry.
